My favorite dimension of this book is Professor Pauley’s deft verification of the familiar adage that “timing is everything.” He astutely situates his and his family’s personal histories within the sweep of great events that helped to define the past century—including the two World Wars, the Great Depression, the Cold War, and the Baby Boom—to sort out the respective impacts of individual volition and of history writ large on the lives that we hope to lead, the families that we create, and the legacies that we strive to confer upon those who succeed us. Did anyone ever research a topic so poorly? Whether Merrill deserves a full fledged biography still remains unclear after reading this amateurish attempt.. The recipes here are not always simple, but all of them are low-carb and seem very healthy. The variety of subjects discussed makes the book seem like aloosely connected set of magazine articles.
