His many literary awards include the Hugo, the Nebula, and the International Fantasy Award. His most famous novel, More Than Human, won serious academic recognition as literature, a rarity amongst science fiction works of the 1950s. He wrote over two hundred stories, several novels, scripts for film and television (including two of the most famous episodes of the original Star Trek), plays, and dozens of nonfiction reviews and essays. THEODORE STURGEON (1918-1985) is one of the great figures of the golden age of science fiction.

Delany, Harlan Ellison, and Nancy Kress. Theodore Sturgeon is the father of literary SF, his profound influence apparent in the works of such wildly different authors as Samuel R. He was honored with the Hugo, Nebula, and International Fantasy Awards and the World Fantasy Lifetime Achievement Award. To Marry Medusa is vintage Sturgeon, a treat for fans and newcomers alike. His fiction--concerned with alienation, union, repression, self-discovery, and the healing powers of love and tolerance--foreshadowed the humanist, sexual, and transcendental revolutions of the 1960s. Dan Gurlick was a drunken bully--until he became infected with an alien spore. Now Gurlick is part of the Medusa, a galaxy-spanning hive mind comprising a billion life forms--a near-omnipotent intelligence horrified by humanity, and determined to destroy the unsuspecting human race in order to save it. To Marry Medusa (1958) may be Theodore Sturgeon's best novel. --Cynthia Ward

A spore that has in turn ingested Gurlick and turned him into a host for the Medusa, a hive mind so vast that it encompasses the life forms of a billion planes -- and is determined to ingest Earth as well. But now this craven, seething, barely literate drunk has ingested a spore that traveled light years before touching down on our planet. In this mind-wrenching classic of science fiction, the Hugo and Nebula Award-winning writer Theodore Sturgeon places an unwitting humanity on a collision course with an organism of unimaginable power and immeasurable malevolence.Until recently, Gurlick was a substandard specimen of Homo sapiens. Crackling with suspense, overflowing with invention, and startling in its compassion, To Marry Medusa is a tour de force from one of the great imaginers of the golden age of speculative fiction.

Political corruption and "fear of the gods" exert power over commoners. But it did not detract from the book in my opinion.I only gave t I chose this book because over the years I have read articles by Armand Moss and enjoyed is fresh, provocative and sometimes amusing perspective on issues touching the faith of my youth, the LDS Church. The premise of the book is that there exists suspicion and sometimes even hostility between the institutions of the church and those of the academic world. Children will love this book but so will adults. They can't help it - Granny Moon and Jake (and all the characters) are all incredibly likeable. For example, meet Granny Moon and Jake in the first chapter:"Jake’s Granny never made it to school plays. The book is meant to be used by professional trainers as well as the average person. Steeped in his wide familiarity with the broadest contours of both American and European history, this delightful book is simultaneously a memoir of Professor Pauley’s youth growing up in Nebraska and his education and
